factory farms is an issue of capitalism, workers, health, and environmentalism.
factory farms is a human issue.
I would be vegan again if they were a little more understanding and open-minded about people with eating disorders. I know not all vegans are evil, I used to be one and I was pretty awesome. But, after someone outed me for having an ED on a very large and public forum, the resulting treatment of me and those with EDs was absolutely horrible.
Interesting. Yeah, vegans get a a lot of shit for being classist and albeist because fuck a lot of vegans are and they piss me off but I haven’t heard many vegans being upset w/ people who have EDs, but I have heard people in general not really understanding EDs at all. You don’t have to tell me what kind of things they told you but I would be curious about why vegans would be particularly upset at another vegan w/ an ED.
Obbvy I’m not the original-person-with-[former?]-ED, so I’m not trying to speak for them; but it seems to be a big issue in the veg community because there’s a lot of “ED Warning” stuff that dismisses veg eating styles as being symptomatic of eating disorders. Also the popular misconception of veg* types as being unhealthy and skinny, or the misconception that veg* eating habits will make you [drastically] loose weight. Basically: there’s a lot of propaganda out there that likes to treat veg*ism as a surefire way to become malnourished, and a lot of propaganda that equalizes eating disorders with appearing malnourished.
I’ve read “tips” from anorexics to claim one is veg* to turn down offers of food, “tips” from the diet community that eating more veg*-like will cause weightloss, and “tips” from the veg* community that claim adhering to such a lifestyle will make a person “healthier and more attractive” [code of SKINNY&WAIF-LIKE]. The most outspoken critics of this mindset tend to be within the veg* community, because they probably have to deal with the flack from non-veg*people who want to claim that they are anorexic, are doing it as a fad diet, and that, say, fat vegans don’t exist. The down side of this defence is that having/having had an eating disorder becomes “you’re veg* for the wrong reasons”, and puts suspicion on one’s motivations for being veg*.
Two dudes sitting in an apartment, making comics, eating ice cream, discussing our feelings about Bright Noa. Still waiting for the chick flicks to happen. (And by chick flicks I obviously mean shoujo and mecha anime.)
Fuck yeah Spring Break.
When you finish that goddamn oxen butt page, and I pencil the last five pages completely.
